This means that sperm can still come out of the testes, but it can't mix with semen and won't make a woman pregnant.
With either procedure, sperm is still produced but does not mix with semen. Testosterone levels remain normal, and men still experience normal erections and orgasms with an unaffected sex drive.

1. Reduced risk of post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS)
PVPS is a condition that can cause discomfort and pain in the testicles, and it affects up to 15% of men who undergo traditional (closed-ended) vasectomy. By leaving the end of the vas deferens open, sperm can continue to flow out of the testes, which may help to reduce pressure buildup in the tubes and thus decrease the risk of PVPS.
A study published in the Journal of Urology in 2016 found that open-ended vasectomy was associated with a lower risk of PVPS compared to traditional vasectomy, with a rate of 3.8% for open-ended vasectomy compared to 12.4% for traditional vasectomy.
2. Easier reversibility

The doctor then has to locate and cut both ends of the vas deferens, which can be a more intricate and time-consuming process.
In contrast, open-ended vasectomy only involves cutting one end of the vas deferens, leaving the other end open. This means that the procedure can be performed with a smaller incision and less tissue disruption. Using the no-scalpel method, we don't even make an incision, which makes it even less invasive. We use small dissecting forceps to create a tiny opening that closes on its own within a day or two.
