Every vasectomy paid out-of-pocket includes one mail-in test kit at no additional charge. The cost of the kit is included in your total procedure fee.
If you are using insurance, the test kit is not included but may be purchased separately.
At least 12 weeks and 20 ejaculations after your vasectomy, you must test your semen to make sure that no sperm are present. Never rely on a vasectomy as effective birth control until after this test is complete. It is very important that you use protection until a negative test is confirmed.
With our mail-in test kit, you can provide your sample from the privacy and comfort of your home, avoiding the need to travel to a laboratory.
We partner with Fellow, a CLIA-certified semen analysis testing system. You simply take the test home with you after your vasectomy and follow the instructions when it's time to check your semen for sperm.
Collecting a sample at home is much more convenient and comfortable than collecting at a clinic or lab. We know that it can be uncomfortable or anxiety-inducing when submitting a sample from inside the bathroom of a clinic or lab, which is why we love these Fellow kits.
Each kit comes with very clear instructions on how to collect and mail in the sample. Please make sure to read and understand everything thoroughly before beginning. It is very important to follow each step to ensure that the Fellow lab receives your properly packaged and labeled sample in a timely manner.

Please note: If you decide to send your sample to Fellow prior to the recommended waiting period (12 weeks and 20 ejaculations), you will need to order another kit directly from Fellow. It is important that you use protection until you have confirmation of a negative test.
