The decision to get a vasectomy is deeply personal, and if you don't have children you may be wondering if you are permitted to get one. At Tri-Valley Vasectomy, we take a thoughtful, case-by-case approach to ensure patients make informed, confident decisions about their reproductive health.
Eligibility for Patients Without Kids
Whether you can get a vasectomy without having children depends on several factors, including your age, circumstances, and certainty about your decision.
Over 30
If you’re over the age of 30, don’t have children, and are sure you don’t want kids in the future, vasectomy approval is generally straightforward. We take your certainty seriously, but we still recommend thorough consultation and reflection, typically allowing 2-4 weeks to finalize your decision. While cryopreservation (sperm banking) isn’t mandatory, we strongly encourage it as an option to preserve your reproductive choices. Cryopreservation is now more affordable, and we partner with Male From Home and Fellow to make the process as seamless as possible.
Under 30
For individuals under 30 without children, the criteria are stricter. At our clinic, we require cryopreservation for those in this group to ensure they have future options. This policy is rooted in the understanding that perspectives and life circumstances can change over time.
Under 25
If you’re under 25 with no children, vasectomy approval is exceedingly rare. Research and experience have shown that younger individuals may not yet have the life experience to fully understand the permanence of this decision. However, there are exceptions for special cases, such as individuals under 25 with two or more children or unique medical or personal circumstances.
Common Exceptions and Case-by-Case Assessments
Some patients may be eligible for a vasectomy despite not meeting the typical guidelines. For instance:
- Adoptive Parents: If you or your partner have adopted children, this is considered when evaluating your case.
- Medical Conditions: Certain medical situations may warrant a vasectomy, such as health risks associated with pregnancy for a partner or other genetic considerations.

Why We’re Stringent About Guidelines
At Tri-Valley Vasectomy, we view vasectomies as permanent and encourage patients to do the same. While vasectomy reversals are technically possible, they are expensive, complex, and not guaranteed to restore fertility. This perspective underpins our strict age guidelines and policies, designed to prevent regret and ensure patients are fully prepared for the long-term implications of their choice.
Take Time to Decide
There’s no need to rush into a decision. We encourage all patients to take their time, think carefully, and discuss their plans with loved ones and trusted advisors. At Tri-Valley Vasectomy, our goal is to provide education, support, and a judgment-free environment where you can make the best choice for your future.
